Claverham Community College

Kris Cymer is the IT Network Manager at Claverham Community College, a secondary school with around 1200 students. For years, Google Workspace has played an important role in the daily activity of the school. Google Classroom is especially important for homework and scheduling. 

There is a syncing tool in place which syncs Claverham’s school data (in SIMS) with Google Classroom. The goal is to keep Google Classroom as up-to-date and manageable as possible with the correct students and classes.

The Challenge

IT Support at Claverham found that there was no straightforward way to create small changes, such as adding a student to a classroom without making changes in SIMS or using GAM (Google Apps Manager). GAM is a command-line tool and though it’s powerful, it can be intimidating for inexperienced users. Making changes to Google Classrooms in GAM is laborious and time-consuming. It offers no way to oversee all of the students and classrooms and requires looking through the classes one by one to find a student. 1200 users effectively meant Claverham needed to view all of their data and make changes quickly and easily.

The Solution

Now Kris makes singular and bulk changes with ease. He can now easily add and remove Classroom users in minutes, using GAM this took much longer.

Some companies bundle Google Classroom managers in with lots of other tools which drives up the price. So the school would be wasting money on a huge tool that they will only use a small part of.
